How did you get into World of Warcraft (WoW)?

I’ve been in the WoW world for a few years. My son started me down that track a number years ago. When he was a teenager he loved the games and I used to watch over his shoulder and soon decided I would prefer to join the teenagers and play myself… the family regarded it as being very cool to have Grandma playing games.

So how long have you been playing for?

Are you part of a guild in Wow? Do you interact with other players?

Yes, but I don’t have a lot of communication with the guild members. They are there if I want to talk but I am happy to play on my own.

When you do talk to them, do you share much information about yourself?

Usually things such as country or state where you live. Nothing personal. Sometimes query male or female, but rarely anything else.

Do people care much about personal details? Do you think it matters to them that they know? Or does it matter to you?

Do you ever tell them you’re a grandma?

No.

Do you think they’d view you differently?

Probably not. Usually the comments are reserved for the young players that “know it all”.

Tell me about the characters you play as.

All but one are female, but the male is a bit boring. I am sure many people even the males have a female in their list.

Do you have a favourite character you like to play as?

I stick to 2. Tried them all. They’re not very aggressive and use magic rather than weapons and I would achieve better results if I took the time to read all the game play info. “Shenar” and “Ceanna” are the two I play at the moment.

I guess in the time that I have been in WoW I have started many characters and over time have worked out the ones I enjoy playing. I don’t think I would be classed as a fanatic… there are many people including one of my grandsons that spend many hours playing too many games.

After all these years, what’s your favourite thing about playing WoW?

Well my husband enjoys watching sport. I don’t really enjoy watching those programs, so I am happy to play WoW for a couple of hours a day.
